Toyota Specialized 2024: A Season to Remember

As we wrap up 2024, we’re taking a moment to look back on an incredible year of racing, camaraderie, and growth for the Toyota Specialized Racing Team. It’s been a season filled with challenges and triumphs, and as always, the team brought their best to every start line.

Highlights of the Year

Wines2Whales Magic

The year ended on a high note at the FNB Wines2Whales, where Matt Beers and Alex Miller clinched the overall win. Their teamwork across three demanding stages was top-notch, and the duo kept their cool under pressure. Johan van Zyl and his partner Rudi Koen also had a solid run, finishing 8th overall. Alex’s resilience after his mid-year crash and Matt’s steady strength made this result even sweeter.

Cape Epic Podium Power

One of the biggest moments of the season came at the Absa Cape Epic, where Matt Beers partnered with Tristan Nortje to secure a podium finish. It’s a race that demands everything from its riders, and the team’s ability to adapt and stay focused was a highlight of the year.

Matt Beers: Consistency and Power

Matt Beers has had another standout season, proving why he’s one of the top riders in the world. From securing a podium finish at the Absa Cape Epic to taking the overall win at FNB Wines2Whales, Matt’s year has been defined by tactical racing and raw strength.

He also delivered a stellar performance in the Lifetime Grand Prix, finishing 4th overall against some of the toughest competition on the international stage. Reflecting on his season, Matt said, “It’s been an amazing year of racing with the team. I’ve learned a lot and grown as a rider, and I’m already excited for what’s to come in 2025.

Alex Miller’s Stellar Season

Alex Miller continued to make his mark with a string of strong performances. From defending his Namibia National MTB Title to finishing 13th at the Lake Placid XCM World Cup, Alex showed he’s one of the most promising young talents in the sport. Alex Miller became the Namibia Gravel Champion, adding another jersey to his collection.

Johan van Zyl’s Breakthroughs

Johan van Zyl’s transition from road to mountain biking has been a journey worth watching. This year, he landed a 2nd place at the Karoo to Coast, took a win at the XCC National Cup, and held his own at some of the toughest stage races in South Africa. His consistent efforts prove he’s growing stronger with every race.

The Gear That Got Us Here

The team relied on their Specialized S-Works Epic World Cup bikes to get through every race, from technical climbs to rough, unpredictable trails. The bikes’ balance of speed, control, and comfort made them a key part of the team’s success.

Connecting with the Community

While racing is at the heart of what we do, 2024 was also about sharing our passion with others. The team participated in community rides, events, and outreach efforts that reminded us why we love this sport. Meeting fans and riding alongside them was a highlight of the year.

Saying Goodbye to Alex Miller

This season marks a new chapter for Alex Miller, who will be moving on to new adventures in 2025. It’s been an absolute privilege having him as part of the Toyota Specialized family. His dedication and spirit will be missed, but we’re excited to see where his journey takes him next.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The team is already looking forward to 2025, with big plans and new goals. Training is in full swing, and the riders are eager to take on fresh challenges and push their limits even further.

A Note of Thanks

To our sponsors, partners, and fans: thank you for being part of this journey. Your support, encouragement, and belief in what we do make everything possible. Here’s to another great year of riding together.
