Team Toyota Specialized September Race Round-Up 2024

September has been a thrilling month for the Toyota Specialized Racing Team, with Matt Beers, Alex Miller, and Johan Van Zyl taking on some of the toughest races in the international cycling calendar. Let’s dive into their standout performances and see how the team fared.

Matt Beers' 5th Place at Chequamegon MTB Festival

Matt Beers started September with a bang at the Chequamegon MTB Festival in Wisconsin, USA, where he delivered a fantastic 5th place finish. In a race that tested riders' endurance and tactical skill across 62 km of rugged terrain, Matt pushed hard to keep the pace high and break the field. "I did the lion’s share of the work, trying to keep the group small, but my legs were cooked by the end," Matt explained. This race was part of the Lifetime Grand Prix, and Matt’s performance has positioned him 4th overall in the series.

Alex Miller’s 13th at the Lake Placid XCM World Cup

Meanwhile, Alex Miller was putting in the work at the Lake Placid XCM World Cup in New York, where he fought hard to secure 13th place in the Elite Men’s category. Despite feeling strong in the opening laps, the intense pace took its toll by the third lap. "If you’d told me at the beginning of the season that I’d finish 13th in a World Cup, I’d have been stoked," said Alex. This result is another solid performance following his recovery from his Olympic crash.

Johan Van Zyl Shines at Karoo to Coast

Back in South Africa, Johan Van Zyl tackled the iconic Karoo to Coast race, a 95 km challenge between Uniondale and Knysna. Johan secured an impressive 2nd place in the Elite Men’s category. "I felt comfortable throughout the race, and my training is finally coming together," Johan reflected after his podium finish.
