Salomon Thundercross

Writer: RUN MagazineRUN Magazine

The trail pioneers from Annecy France have created a shoe that seemingly delivers the best of the Speedcross and Sense Ride. This is a technical trail tamer that is more flexible and closer to the ground than speedcross but more rugged than the Sense Ride - seemingly a sweet spot for more comfort and stability in technical terrain.

A trail shoe for a dynamic, cushioned ride with exceptional grip and more precise foothold. Equipped with aggressive 5mm lugs to tackle any terrain, no matter how tricky & technical. Developed in the French Alps, tried and tested on everything from rolling terrain to rocky slopes to sticky single tracks. Sensifit construction is designed to deliver precise, optimal foothold and reliable cushy comfort with a springy and comfortable midsole compound that delivers punch and pop while smoothing out landings for a fluid ride.

These are shoes that make you want to play. They’re not designed for running on roads or smooth flowy paths. They want you to take the less beaten path, the long technical way around. The low drop makes them ideal for fore/midfoot strike runners. It’s a technical shoe, that despite the higher stack height gives you great control when you hammer a technical descent. These shoes would be ideal for longer, technical runs. The combination of the aggressive grip with a cushioned ride means you trade a little technical feel for feet that won’t hate you after 20/30kms of technical running. Grip is exceptional on rough terrain, especially muddy, sandy or very technical single-track.

At under 300grams they come in light for the amount of cushioning, protection and grip you get. Unlike some of Salomon’s S-Lab shoes, they fit quite comfortably on broader feet. These shoes are ideal for long technical training runs or races on rough terrain. They want to go off trail.
