RUN Mag - Autumn 2023 Edition

You'd have thought that over time the invention of bicycles and the subsequent global explosion of cycling then more recently indoor sports like gym and various forms of treadmill running - which are all considered healthier options than road and trail running for our knees, hips & other joints - that recreational running might die a slow death. Quite the contrary however, running remains by far the biggest participation sport in the world. From 5km park runs to half marathons and now 160km trail epics, running event numbers are all time high as people step off the wealth creation hamster wheel and head back outside into nature to make the best of what God gave us, rather than chasing expensive cars and stuff that you can't take to an early grave.

As the summer season draws to a close, we have our two biggest events looming over the gratefully cooler but still typically perfect southern african outdoor running weather. The Two Oceans marathon brings thousands of runners to race, trot or run-walk their way around the beautiful bottom tip of our continent and over legendary Chapmans Peak, or at least the even bigger half marathon plus ancillary events. A month later the town of George hosts Africa's first Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB) series event at the Mountain Ultra Trail (MUT), then a month later it's the global benchmark of hard core road running at the 96th Comrades Marathon.

Potch just hosted the SA Athletics Champs where Wayde Van Niekerk bounced back from 6 hard injury plagued years to run the fastest 400m recorded this year as we head towards Worlds in Budapest in August. The Absa Run Your City 10km series is happening all over the country bringing amateurs and elite runners together over this exciting distance, while Cape Town hosted a successful race as a World Marathon Major candidate city.

In a nutshell it's an incredibly exciting time to be a runner of any format and distance in South Africa. To that end our Autumn edition of SA's premium local coffee table mag is celebrating this. Enjoy me-time, offline or online deep diving into your chosen passion, on the couch, loo or bed. We aim to provide inspiring and informative content to local runners with international quality imagery and storytelling, custom made for saffas who love to run all year round on trails, tar and track. Enjoy potent imagery and insightful insight, useful advice by runners you know, meet the top athletes, the best tech and training advice to run faster.. plus much more timeless edutainment.

In this edition our experts review the best road and trail shoes of 2023 and why which of each may suit you best. World leading coaches share usable advice on the key topic of maximising your training time. We explain, in layman's terms, what you need to eat and drink to ace race day. Real runners review recent races while we preview the big ones coming up and present a comprehensive calendar to what's coming up next in your hood. We meet hard core trail and road runners plus visit one of the oldest local running clubs, Celtic Harriers.

All of this and a whole lot more in a 130+ page, large-format, coffee table package for just R89. Try it, we worked hard to create it and think you'll like it.
