Kudu Canter Trail Run

What a treat!  An action packed weekend away for the family.

Camping, running, swimming, fishing, war stories, hiking and more - all catered for by spirited Saffas dating back to pre war years.

The Kudu Canter Trail run is a 2-day event, 19th & 20th October, taking place in the Northern Drakensberg, halfway between Durban and Johannesburg.

Tam and Ting are the organisers, with lots of help and support from family and a wonderful local community. They aim to provide beautiful trail run and walk routes around the scenic Spionkop Dam, as well as lots of festivities and FUN for the whole family to enjoy.

The Braithwaite Farm, Linwood, is situated in Bergville on Spionkop Dam. A 5th generational family farm going back to 1900. The farm was originally on the actual damsite itself prior to the commissioning of the dam in 1972. Spionkop Dam, is a protected area, steeped in Anglo Boer war history. Lying virtually at the foot of the Spionkop Mountain which was the site of the bloodiest battles to ensue the Anglo Boer war in an attempt to lift the siege of Ladysmith 23-24th January 1900.

Whilst offering a serene environment, Spionkop Game reserve boasts a rich selection of wildlife amongst the thorn savanna vegetation. White Rhino, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest and a wide variety of antelope grace these plains.

Being situated on and around Spionkop Dam they have the most exceptional views and tranquil surroundings. This is an Invitation to share their piece of paradise with fun loving trail seekers and their families, based around a two-day trail run.

The race includes an optional 300 metre swim in the dam on both day 1 and day 2 with all the safety measures in place for brave swimmers.

  • Day 1 - 18km or an optional 11km then Duiker Dash 3 or 5km kids & others fun run on Saturday afternoon.

  • Day 2 - Around 13km.

As avid trail runners, the routes were thoughtfully planned by the organisers with the best views and scenic bush veld in mind. They maintain the trails as much as possible without disturbing the natural bushveld.

Being a farm friendly trail run the farm owners cater for the whole family. Children will have a dedicated kids zone that will be supervised at all times. After you finish day 1 and are not too tired, you are more than welcome to fish in the dam, ride your bike, swim, bird & wild animal watch, canoe or just chill at the race village listening to music.

Free camping accommodation will be available with breath-taking views of the dam. They have hot showers and clean ablutions with flushing toilets - what a win! Tents to hire are available.

Lots of special memories will be made. Ting and Tam look forward to welcoming you to the farm in October!
